Your rights as a juror
- Must your employer pay you?
- No. State law does not require employers to continue paying salary. Employers that pay may ask jurors to return the per diem but not mileage1
- Job protection
- Employers must grant leave without loss of time in service and may not fire an employee for jury service. Fine up to $200 plus reinstatement and back pay1
- Postponing or being excused
- The court allows postponements. Some counties require the request before a summons is received1
Many counties pay more than the state minimum, and your summons usually says what you will be paid. If something here is not covered, your summons or the court clerk can tell you.
