Jury duty pay in Illinois
Set by each county board. The statute floor is $4, $5 or $10 a day depending on county class, or a higher amount fixed by the county board1
A version setting $25 for the first day and $50 after came from P.A. 98-1132, which the official text says was held unconstitutional. Counties may pay more.
Your rights as a juror
- Mileage
- Set by the county board, at least 10 cents a mile in first and second class counties1
- Must your employer pay you?
- No. Employers must give time off but are not required to pay employees for jury duty2
- Job protection
- Employers may not discharge, threaten, intimidate or coerce an employee over jury service, or make a night shift worker work while serving. Violation is contempt2
Many counties pay more than the state minimum, and your summons usually says what you will be paid. If something here is not covered, your summons or the court clerk can tell you.
